Let's chat.
Heya all! Legs here with a quick server update regarding some rule changes and conversations regarding SMP Classic.
Border Hopping & Elytras
Something that's definitely been coming up is multiple players and groups engaging in "border jumping", or leaving the border and out-healing the damage to acquire Elytras before the border expanded that far, sometimes sniping the wings from other users who were waiting for a normal expansion.
This will no longer be possible after an update we will be pushing later today. While we won't be doing anything retroactively, we feel like it's against the spirit of the border for SMP Classic.
Now - this also means that Elytras aren't as accessible as we'd like. We're looking into a few different ways to acquire wings, from things like an admin shop to the wings dropping from an Ender Dragon kill. We haven't locked one in yet, and when we do there will be another blog post, so keep an eye out.
Be Good To Each Other
Now I want to take the "fun update post / community manager" hat off for a minute to talk more intently.
Lately, I've been seeing some discussion or resentment of the mod team on SMP Classic, both for their moderation actions as well as their activity and involvement in the SMP Classic economy. Some people have started pushing an idea that since the mods are, well, mods... they should be prohibited from playing the game they want to play.
I don't agree.
Yes, I picked active members of the community to be mods, of COURSE I did. The people who play on and are a part of the community are the ones who I trust the most to work with me to shape and nurture that community. This includes some of the most hardcore players who make mega farms and mega shops... but please remember - it's Minecraft. There are very few actually monopolies possible, and we've added (or are adding) functionality to mitigate these where appropriate.
These systems have been slower on SMP Classic as we wanted to keep it, well... Classic. These things were a big part of SMP+ and long term players might remember the bumps along the road as we designed those systems. The team behind this server does this out of passion and as (mostly) volunteers, so please bear with us. As we continue to grow, if the server can hit that point that this actually becomes people's jobs - then yeah hold us to a higher standard. Until then I ask for your patience.
I'm not putting anyone on blast here, but I will be catching up with some people to remind them of our community's core values. As always I ask that you assume positive intent with your fellow server members, and in the rare situations where that's not the case, that's what the Guardians are here to help with! We shouldn't have to manage squabbles over pathing in the shopping district. For any of you who live with HOAs - we DO NOT want to become an HOA *shudder*
The goal of everything we're making here is to make a server where people can play cool stuff together, build amazing things, and have a place to be themselves and be chill. Let's try to all work towards those goals, together.
Thanks all,
Legs
