SMP Classic Guide
SMP Classic is a server that has been created to cater to those who want a much closer-to-vanilla experience than SMP+ provides. This idea has been thought of for awhile now, but we are happy to say that it is finally here!
***IMPORTANT***
The End will be closed until roughly 2 weeks after the launch of SMP Classic. This is to encourage development of basic infrastructure early on, rather than have everyone rushing to get an elytra. Our goal is to have this server be a nice interconnected community, and we feel slowing progression slightly will aid in the accomplishment of that goal.
In addition to this, the Shopping District island will be restricted for 1 week after launch. This is so people don't try to base there immediately, and also to allow people to accumulate some stuff to sell. The shopping district will open on August 9th at 12:00pm EST.
***EQUALLY IMPORTANT***
We are going to be slightly less restrictive on duping on SMP Classic than on SMP+. We will be allowing the usage of duping for carpets, rails, and TNT. Essentially, we're allowing the sorts of machine-based dupers that aren't too game breaking.
Keep in mind we are still prohibiting extreme dupes where you can get as much as you want of any material in the game. We are simply allowing a few specific item duping methods.
THIS IS ONLY ON SMP CLASSIC THOUGH. THIS SLIGHT RULE CHANGE IS NOT EFFECTIVE ON SMP+.
While the idea of SMP Classic is to have it be a lot closer to Vanilla than the SMP+ server, there are a number of plugins and features that have been added on top of the base game. All of them are absolutely necessary for the server experience. Some of them are for things like moderation and chest locking, and others help to increase QoL on the server and provide other handy but simple features.
However, before we get into those, we should cover a more important topic: The Rules
The Rules
- Be good to each other.
- Absolutely no stealing or griefing.
- No alt accounts.
- No hacking / unfair advantages.
- Keep it PG.
As always, if there is ever a breach of rules or any sort of issue on the server, please open a ticket about it and we will handle it as soon as we can.
To open a ticket on the discord, go to the #support-desk channel near the top, click on the ticket that best suits your problem, and fill in the relevant info. Alternatively, you can use /report <detailed info on the issue here> on the smp itself. Please provide as many details as possible to ensure we solve problems quickly.
Main Features of SMP Classic:
- Guide Book - Given to you when you first join the SMP, it will tell you the basics of the server and redirect you to this site for more info.
- Small World Border - Starts with a 4k x 4k border (2,000 block radius), which will expand over time to a much greater range. This is to keep players close and encourage the development of infrastructure between bases and other main areas. The starting expansion rate of the border will be 40 blocks per IRL day. This may increase later on in the season.
- Chest Locking / LWC - This has been implemented so you can protect your stuff at least a little bit, although there are no claims or teleports. Lock your chests using
/lock. For more on LWC, see Avery's wonderful guide here. - Diamond-based Economy - We have implemented a rudimentary Diamond Economy so that things like shops and player-to-player deals are much easier to complete, as well as preventing a mess of stealing. You can use
/deposit <value>and/withdraw <value>to add or remove diamonds from your balance. - Shopping District - The shopping district is located on the Large Mushroom Island off the coast of Spawn. Players will not be allowed to base here, only build shops. It is asked that you keep your shops at a reasonable size.
The shops on SMP Classic work the same as on SMP+, you can create shops using/shop create <price>while holding the amount of the item you wish to sell. - Voice Chat - We have Simple Voice Chat installed on the server, which allows you to talk to other players in-game through voice chatting. This greatly enhances the playing experience and we highly recommend you install it.
Plugins on the server include:
- Night-skipping plugin - This is mostly QoL, just makes skipping the night look cooler.
- XConomy - Plugin used for the Diamond Economy.
- Simple Voice Chat - Improves the in-game player experience.
- InteractiveChat - Gives a better chat experience, it’s on SMP+
- Moderation plugins - Needed for a variety of reasons.
- Performance plugins - There are some plugins to help with server performance.
- Custom-made plugins - For specific features we had to add ourselves.
